One does not live by bread alone. – Luke 4:4

Worship the Lord your God and serve only Him. – Luke 4:8

Do not put the Lord your god to the test. – Luke 4:12

Jesus faced the test to keep his appetites (wants and desires) under control and aspirations (for Jesus this was his work or ministry) in balance. What would your life be like if you “fed” all of your wants and desires? What are your hopes, goals, and callings? How do you keep all those things in balance?

If I fed all of my wants and desires, sure I would have everything I want but I would have noting to strive for. My hopes are to be happy, make more friends, goals are to achieve more at work, not sure of my calling(s). I keep it in balance by only satisfying some wants/desires and trying to do better every day.

We should strive to be like Mary, who used her words and experience to show how to know, love, and praise God. (ref. Luke 1:46-55)

God lifts up the lowly, fills the hungry, and keeps promises to the people of Israel. (ref. Luke 2:1-7)

What questions do you have about God, faith, or the Bible? Where can you go to ask hard questions and argue faithfully?

My questions: Why does God let people die from illness instead of healing them? Why does He let good people get debilitating diseases, when evil and wicked people exist? How do we know our faith is real? How do we know the Bible is truth?

To ask the hard questions and argue faithfully, you can go to Church or a Christian discussion forum.

8-23-26 Bible Study

I originally wrote this in my journal on the 23rd of August. It is things I’ve written down during my daily Bible study. I started with reading Psalm 1 and Psalm 4, and wrote things down that stood out and answered a discussion question that was in the margins. (Lutheran Study Bible is what I read.) So below is my entry for that day.

God’s law teaches us how to live in this world, and reminds us that nobody is perfect and that we all need God’s forgiveness. (ref. Psalm 1:2)

Those who delight in God’s law are like trees that provide fruit. How is a fruitful tree a good image for the life of faith?

It shows that if you live life in faith according to God’s law, you will thrive and grow like the fruit of the trees do.

What does it mean to trust in the Lord? To reach out to God with all of your heart and arrange your life accordingly. (ref. Psalm 4:5)

What things keep you awake with worry during the night? What would give you peace?

Everything keeps me awake at night with worry, especially the future, health, money, etc. I’m not sure what would give me peace. Maybe guarantees and security.

Reflection

I actually journaled this last night in my physical journal, and felt I should back it up here too.

Vacation was great. We scattered some of Mom’s ashes in the Breaks and that was nice. Ate good food. Went to the cemetery in Big Rock and something told me to keep walking, and when I finally stopped, I was at the grave of my mom’s older sister. I think Mom led me to her. ❤

As some of you may or may not know, I’m a big fan of the band a-ha, and I’ve been learning about them. Their lead singer, Morten Harket, is very handsome. ❤ He wanted to be a minister before getting famous, and is actually a very devout Christian. He’s Lutheran to be exact. I thought that was interesting, so I started reading about it. And tbh, it explains why Morten is so kind and loving.

I’ve been away from any sort of Christian movement since 2001 due to trauma with my family’s Baptist ways. But today, I posted on tumblr that I was having a hard time since my mom passed and an anonymous person sent me an ask that simply read “Psalm 34:18”. So I looked it up, and:

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”

It made me cry. It was exactly what I needed. Also have a copy of the Lutheran Study Bible because I wanted to know about Morten’s faith — and it feels… right?

It’s funny in a way because just last month I wrote in my journal about how Christianity let me down. And now… I don’t know.

Is this what is meant by a crisis of faith? I’m a Nordic Pagan of Israeli-Jewish and Norwegian ancestry (mostly)… why is this feeling like something?

first post

Well, this is my first post here. It’s really funny that this uses WordPress, because I had a WordPress blog, but it got deleted for some reason? Not sure why.

Ah well, but I’m here now! I plan to write posts that are more personal than ones I share on my other blogs — like my Dreamwidth or tumblr — and also post my fanfiction as well, because you can never have too many backups.

Look for another post soon, one I journaled last night, but never preserved digitally.
